Cathy’s Priorities for Rutherford County
Good-Paying Jobs & Economic Opportunity
Bringing businesses with good-paying jobs to Rutherford County will help residents avoid long daily commutes to Franklin or Nashville and allow families to spend more time together.
Too many people are working two or three jobs just to survive. Economic development should raise wages, not just increase profits. Cathy supports smart recruitment of employers who pay living wages and invest in our community.
Affordability & Cost of Living
Affordability is the number one issue facing our residents today. No one should have to choose between food and medicine.
Through her volunteer work at Nourish Food Bank, Cathy has seen firsthand the growing number of families needing help with food, rent, and utilities. County leadership must recognize this reality and make decisions that ease—not worsen—the burden on working families.
Fair Pay for County Employees
Rutherford County does not pay sheriffs, firefighters, paramedics, and teachers as competitively as Murfreesboro City or surrounding counties. As a result, we lose trained, experienced employees to higher-paying jurisdictions.
Cathy believes we must value the people who protect us, teach our children, and respond in emergencies—by paying them fairly and retaining talent here at home.
Affordable Housing & Smart Growth
Housing costs are pushing young families and first-time buyers out of the market. Cathy supports incentives for builders to construct more affordable housing, including:
Tax breaks for builders who agree to build homes under $350,000
Requiring builders of high-end developments to also build affordable homes in other areas
She also supports lobbying state legislators to allow impact fees, so developers—not taxpayers—help pay for roads, schools, and infrastructure needed for new growth.
Closing Middle Point Landfill & Waste Solutions
Cathy supports closing the Middle Point Landfill, but understands that closing it must come with real, workable solutions.
She supports: - The Tennessee Waste to Jobs Act, which can turn waste into revenue
- The new transfer station to reduce landfill dependency
- Innovative solutions like WastAway, which plans to convert solid waste into fuel and soil enrichment
Cathy also supports The Jackson Law, which gives counties and municipalities the right to decide whether they want a landfill in their community.
